About Me

Richard Jones

I have been fortunate to have a career of learning experiences in education. I hope the people I have met and worked with have benefited from my work and ideas. Most of my career is from someone extending an invitation to work. My first employed job was as a substitute teacher in 1970. I was a Senior in college, and my high school principal called me to serve as a 2-week substitute for my former high school agriculture teacher. My most recent work is an invitation from my colleague and friend, Dr. Kathy Weigel, to be an adjunct professor at Lynn University. I teach Educational Leadership courses in the Integration of Technology, Instructional Design, and Strategic Perspectives in Training and Development. Also, teaching Critiquing Research Literature in the Doctoral Program.

I spent ten years working part-time for the New York State Career and Technical Education Technical Assistance Center, leaving is 2021. This brought my career full circle, from starting as a high school agriculture teacher to working to improve all CTE programs.

As a consultant, I have worked with educators in all 50 states developing the commitment to school change and skills necessary to better prepare students for the future. I estimate that I have spent time in nearly 2000 schools, both excellent and challenging.

I served in several leadership capacities for two decades in the New York State Education Department. I was responsible for implementing leadership programs, curriculum development, professional development, education technology integration, and school improvement. I also worked in the private sector, developing technology applications for schools.

I have received my B.S. M.S., and Ph.D. degrees from Cornell University. In addition, I have authored fourteen books on instruction and leadership and instruction. There is no better learning activity than writing and publishing.

I have chosen my education work using the philosophy, “To be an educator, you must never stop being a student.”
